Review 395 : Toul en Ihuern – Me Oar – English

Toul en Ihuern’s new offering is here.

Created by the french musician known under the name of Crasse (all instruments/vocals) as her solo project, it is Me Oar that is released near from the end of this year.

The musical orientation of the band moves freely around Funeral Doom, Noise and Black Metal, offering dissonance, melancholy and blackness to whosoever comes close, but also a deep pain, raw riffs and seizing ambiences. During six songs and an outro, the musician weaves her dark riffs, grows this harrowing ambience full of sorrow, screams, cries, whispers, but above all unveils us a part of her soul. The cathartic wave she created floods us, and those heady melodies weathered by sometimes surprising elements, as oriental tones on Shahmaran or piercing leads on Berr Warnañ, fascinates us. The music roots can be find in both the style’s masters, but also in Brittany, as Me Or, the eponymous track, can testify, followed by a soft but painful outro on piano.

Toul en Ihuern’s music is as seizing as dark, and Me Oar is the perfect example. The record melts all the musician’s influences, and proves once again the quality of her project while offering a wonderful mental journey.
