Review 499 : Summoner – Demo 2021 – English

Summoner makes its first step in the Death Metal world.

Recently created by Kienan Hamilton (vocals/guitar/bass, Cartilage) and Adam Gambel (drums, Abstracter), the duo attacks with Demo 2021.

The introduction already exposes us to a universe based on Old School Brutal Death, then the short Summoner and its short violent introductive sample strikes first. The singer’s guttural howlings perfectly link to those thick riffs and this nineties-sounding drums. The final’s piercing harmonics throw us on Obscene Malfeasance, a very longer track that still keeps this sound direction. The band knows its universe and makes rhyme violence with groovy riffs and tortured leads before going back to a super powerful rhythmic. Portals to Hell isn’t not really long too, and the song offers a blast beat basis on which riffs crash, before melting to an angry moshpart with tearing harmonics, then Disgorging the Cacodemon, the longest song, is next. In addition to a powerful and greasy rhythmic, the band offers mammoth breaks before a futuristic outro.

The best riffs are cooked in the oldest pans, Summoner knows it well. Their Demo 2021 picks into Brutal Death roots to offer a thick and impressive sound that composes into pure violence and bloody aggression to convince. Putrid wind is blowing for them, and I eagerly wait for more!
