Review 2311 : Tyrants Breaker – Ruled by the Knife – English

First EP for Tyrants Breaker.

Created in 2023 by Vic (guitar, ex-Bloody Alchemy), then joined by Hugo (vocals, Lead the Fall), the project composed then recorded Ruled by the Knife, its first EP, released in 2024.

The EP opens with the jerky riffs of The Fall and its modern jerky patterns, over which the powerful vocals take their place, while the instrumental also features a few Trap-oriented samples. The mix remains coherent and aggressive, as does Ruled by the Knife, the eponymous track, which unveils explosive harmonics before indulging in a dark groove complementing the musicians’ spasmodic violence, full of screaming keys. Moshparts follow one another until drxwn gives us a moment’s respite with its soaring, oppressive sounds, but heaviness returns with Ruthless, which gives pride of place to the drums, allowing them to be much more present and diversified while the other musicians bludgeon their strings. The infernal break gives way to Cancelled and its mysterious influences, which soon morph into the usual saturated breathless surge against which the screams regularly clash, before New Blood takes over with an initially more melodic approach, eventually sticking to an effective rhythmic pattern conducive to mosh. While this track is overtly designed to get a mosh pit moving, this is not the case with Home, the final track, which closes the EP with an airy touch straight out of a soaring Electro mixtape that may well… surprise.

With this first EP, Tyrants Breaker makes its mark on the modern, violent scene, which has been expanding rapidly of late. Fans of the genre are already won over by Ruled by the Knife‘s blend of Deathcore and Trap/Electronic elements.
