Review 2403 : Corpsefucking Art – Tomatized – English

The return of Corpsefucking Art is just around the corner.

Founded by guitarist Andrea “Corpse” Cipolla (Bomberos, Morbo, Nuclear Wargod), he surrounded himself with Marco De Ritis (bass), Mario Di Giambattista (guitar, Devangelic, Vulvectomy), Frank Moretti (vocals, Southern Drinkstruction) and John De Bello (drums) to record Tomatized, his sixth album.

The band has since recruited Alessio Stazi (Reverber) on drums.

Like many Brutal Death Metal albums, Tomatized begins with a “horrific” sample, mainly chewing noises and screams over an anguished sound, then the riffs come in, first quite heavy, then more energetic. The frantic approach is maintained on Hell of the Living Dead, especially the double kick, relayed by a catchy blast that sticks to the massive, saturated riffs before moving into a raw groove with Blood Kitchen Garden, interspersed with eruptions of rapid violence that complement the fat sound. Again, the pace is fairly jerky, and the track delivers its moshparts before giving way to A Nightmare on Tomato Street, which confirms the band’s points of humor, but the composition remains solid through to the final. The Book of the Dead follows without delay, starting off with an eerie slowness, but the rhythm once again ignites to bludgeon us before Dead Sushi offers a… strange introductive sample. Once that’s over, the band go full throttle again and project us all the way to Phantasm, where the riffs take us in and happily molest us as they go their way, finally giving way to Escape from Alpha City, whose basis remains fairly similar at first, but which will change regularly without warning, before ending on a final sample, which will bring this record to a close.

If you thought Corpsefucking Art was one of those Brutal Death bands with low IQ, you’re mistaken. Their recipe is simple: a touch of thickness, a touch of humor, and some solid riffs. Tomatized may not be their best pun, but it’s still very tasty.
