First effort for Scale of Attrition.
Recently born in London, the combo featuring Richie (vocals), Chrissy (guitar), Martin (guitar), David (bass) and Spyridon (drums) sign with Drowning Sea God Records to present Broken Bonds, their debut EP.
We kick off with Broken Bonds, the eponymous track where the band asserts the aggressive roots of its Melodic Death over a steady rhythm, letting the sharp harmonics complement the furious vocal parts. The heavy break will slow the composition down, as will the soothing acoustic passage before an explosive final, then Panacea takes over with a more dissonant approach, but the energetic touches quickly stand out, creating a catchy sound. Their harmonics tangle easily, but the Englishmen don’t hesitate either to place an effective moshpart before a moment of floating, then the final charge that confirms their ability to create a heady sound.
It’s hard to judge with just two tracks, but what I heard on Broken Bonds sounds interesting. Scale of Attrition‘s Melodic Death doesn’t revolutionize anything, but it’s still effective.
