Review 2859 : Aversions Crown – A Voice from the Outer Dark – English

Aversions Crown is back.

Five years after their last album, the band composed of Chris Cougan (guitar), Jayden Mason (drums), Michael Jeffery (guitar, ex-Widow the Sea), and more recently Alex Teyen (vocals, Black Tongue, ex-Mister Sister Fister) unveils their new EP, A Voice from the Outer Dark, on Nuclear Blast.

The EP kicks off without delay with title track A Voice from the Outer Dark, which hits hard from the very first notes, combining Deathcore’s raw power with a fairly technical approach topped off by wild vocals. The track also has a rather mysterious atmosphere thanks to dissonant leads, but also a moment of respite before the final break before moving on to Deathbed Lamentations, which offers a more majestic sound. The violence of the rhythm is evident, but it is magnified by the impressive atmosphere that accompanies the heavy riffs, the track however remains quite mysterious despite the more raw touches that appear before disappearing, letting Castigation Choir to deliver the final blow, daring to use jerky Old School influences and Old School influences that harbor more melodious leads, but which remain devastating, especially on the crushing break that heralds the end of the EP.

True to its roots, Aversions Crown skillfully blends raw power and soaring tones to create an incredibly effective mixture. A Voice from the Outer Dark is three tracks and no compromise.
