Review 2952 : Devastrosity – Eviscerating Desolation – English

Devastrosity releases its first album.

Signed to Comatose Music since their first demo was released last year, the Indonesian band composed of Roby (guitar/bass, Cryogenic, Gorification), Billy (drums, Killharmonic, Jayabaya) and Ardy (vocals, Deserter, Over Power, Goremorphosis…) unveils Eviscerating Desolation in 2025.

Thirty minutes is all it takes for these three guys to show us that they know their stuff when it comes to brutal death metal, starting off in fairly classic fashion with an agonizing sample, then hitting full speed on Human Depravation. The vocals complement the massive rhythm section led by devastating drums with the most old-school sound possible, but which know how to slow down and get heavier before giving way to Morbid Desires, which draws on the same pool of heavy and aggressive influences. The recipe is therefore much the same, and we let ourselves be battered by catchy riffs, but also a thick mosh part, then move on to The Dealer of Death’s introductive growl, followed by its rhythm, which is also as heavy as we like it. Raw groove meets a few touches of technicality, as on Sadistic Purge of Society Manifest, which follows on, maintaining a fairly steady rhythm, particularly on the almost constant blast beat, sometimes followed by a ferocious double kick. The shrill harmonics appear from time to time before granting us a repulsive pause with the sample from Hellish Consumption, which will send shivers down the spines of all ASMR fans, before returning to the violence we expect with a fairly changeable rhythm that is just as enjoyable. Devastate Atrocity follows with a new dose of savagery borrowed from the American scene, even drawing on slam for its most catchy parts, then we breathe again before Decay Collapse starts hammering us mercilessly, but under increasingly oppressive roars. The beastly growls also mark the beginning of Parasitic Epidemic, where the storm of riffs resumes at a good pace, even allowing itself to slow down a little before finally picking up speed again, then Cadaveric Feast bursts in to close the album, not without trampling us once again by alternating furious parts and mosh parts full of killer palm mutes.

In case you haven’t figured it out, which is surprising with all the elements in place: Devastrosity plays brutal Death Metal with Old School influences. All the clichés of the genre are present on Eviscerating Desolation, and that’s a great thing because the sound is so good!
