Review 3146 : Drawn Into Descent – Onrust – English

Seven years of silence have come to an end for Drawn Into Descent.

In 2026, the band led by B. (vocals/guitar), J. (guitar), G. (bass), and V. (drums) signed with Immortal Frost Productions to announce the release of their third album, Onrust.

The album opens with the hazy sound of Teloorgang, the first composition with mysterious melodies that ultimately give rise to a torrent of darkness that is more vivid while remaining raw, incorporating striking vocal parts. The haunting harmonics return from time to time to bring a heavy melancholy while providing moments of respite between bursts of fury, delving into the most virulent corners of darkness before suddenly moving on to Drenkeling and its strangely calm introduction. There is a catchy touch when the saturation intensifies, but the leads remain as occult as ever before the rhythm section flares up once again, revealing piercing screams between the few waves of calm that make the mix more bearable as the riffs relentlessly assault us. The duality comes to an end with the opening moments of Onrust, the eponymous track that starts off very slowly before finally adopting welcome Doom influences in its most saturated parts, making them almost dreamlike while letting them navigate between the shadows to frame the visceral screams. Despite its length, the song ultimately passes quite quickly, joining Ogen and its rawer but still cold tones that instantly capture our minds while knowing how to redouble their rage at the right moment to relaunch the assault and give even more impact to its soothing swirls, letting the contrast offer us a changing rhythm until the very last notes.

Onrust is my first experience with Drawn Into Descent, and their mastery of contrast is more than impressive! While we know perfectly well how to let ourselves be carried away by the calm and disturbing tones, the moments of fury can also make us shudder.
