It’s 6 years after his last album that Pillory released a third one.
The Technical Brutal Death Metal one man band, created in 2003 by the american Darren Cesca (Cytolysis, Deeds of Flesh, Goratory, ex-Arsis), offers us a colorful album of an hour.
We begin with Depleted Mortal Prosperity, with its dark atmosphere from the start, speed and technique quickly take over, between voice transition and solo of various instruments, a delight. We move on to Diluted Existence which iconically starts off with its larsen and leads to a technical and fast guitar playing. The song is also varied rhythmically. We continue with Synergistic Diffusion and some broken glass as introduction. The track is quieter at the beginning compared to the others, but speed increases while remaining very melodious, and we find a more sequenced rhythm than the other songs. We get a little anguished with the grinding-filled introduction of Emanate Deprecation. The sound comes, the rhythm gets inside of you and gets so fast it is difficult to escape it. Note that I appreciate those little bass tones we can hear from time to time, and we have here a music which lasts more than ten minutes, which is very interesting due to its changes of rhythm, style and form. A very appreciable song (in addition to his bass solo).
Let’s continue with Inherent Genetic Collapse which immediately starts in violence, and several kinds of vocal variations are used again as well as some very nice riffs! Well, we are in the middle of the album so calmness will take a place for a few moments, let yourself be seduced by this beautiful melody which announces the beginning of Considered Transmutation, an instrumental title. Between violin and piano, bass, guitar and drums come to settle quietly while continuing to embellish this symphony to go for Epidemic Infection. You can forget calmness, because violence and technicality are coming back. Between pig-squeals, thick riffs and energy, we’re having a lot of fun! Imminent Obliteration quickly comes to slightly calm down, between speed and sequenced parts, we appreciate the form of this piece which ends as it began. Make way for Our Wretched Divinity that begins in pure energy. No respite in this song except at the final part for some very heavy riffs before the last song which follows on from the previous one. Let’s listen to Calculating Progressive Extinction just as effective as the other songs. We end (and yes it’s already over) with the Ultimate Terminus (that’s not a joke, it’s really the final track’s title!) which ends on a rather strange instrument with some scary sides.
So it’s a full album, energetic and full of riffs that Pillory offers us. So heat your speakers up, let me tell you Scourge Upon Humanity is going to rock.
