Review 1374 : Angrrsth x Czort – W Czelusc – English

Angrrsth and Czort join forces for a split.

Although young, the two Polish bands are not new to the scene: Angrrsth has already offered us an EP and an album since its creation in 2018, and Czort has released two albums since 2016, as well as a participation in another split. Let’s discover W Czelusc (« In the Abyss » in Polish), which is released in 2022 by Godz ov War Productions, their common label.

We start with the massive sound of P?tla, Angrrsth‘s first track, which doesn’t waste a single second to crush us under a wave of massive darkness completed by ghostly and oppressive howls. The riffs slow down to reveal a majestic and melodious dissonance, but fury is never far away to ignite a jerky rhythmic in which the vocalist reveals all his madness and strength before trapping us in a mystical sound populated by mysterious choirs. The final howl drives to Przerwana, which immediately revives rage and violence while keeping the impressive and haunting side, letting screams guide us on this melancholic flow before turning into more mysterious clean vocals before the final explosion.

Czort follows with Zródlo Upadku, a more aggressive and raw track which makes energetic blast live with old school riffs topped by those raucous vocals. Sharp leads perfectly feed these cold and heady sounds while developing catchy Pagan roots, which we will also find on Ofiara, the band’s second and last track which remains in this solid and dissonant mix. Leads develop the melodies while the rhythmic basis keeps its aggressive tones to offer vocals a desolate environment until the last moment.

Between the massive sound of Angrrsth and Czort’s Old School sounds, the least we can say is that the Polish scene is rich. Although the bands are not well known, W Czelusc is a perfect introduction to their darkness.
