Review 1485 : Stabbing – Extirpated Mortal Process – English

Stabbing strikes again.

After their first demo and debut EP in 2021, Bridget Lynch (vocals, Pyosisified, ex-Cerebral Engorgement, ex-Nephilim Grinder), Marvin Ruiz (guitar, Dysmetria, Nephilim Grinder, ex-Desecrate the Faith), Meryl Martinez (bass, Scattered Remains, ex-Entropy) and Rene Martinez (drums, Scattered Remains, Disfigured, ex-Whore of Bethlehem) announce the release of their debut album, Extirpated Mortal Process, through Comatose Records.

With its twelve new tracks, the band intends to keep the recipe they have been applying since their beginnings, namely a thick and uninterrupted violence completed by a heavy Old School mix. The catchy patterns are expressed from Inhaling the Dead, the first track, which floods us with jerky riffs and massive screams barely interrupted by a sample, then Razor Wire Strangulation takes over with some sharp lead parts. The mix remains extremely crushing and rhythmic with this syncopated blast, then Southern Hacksaw Execution takes over without even giving us a moment of respite. The wave of rage continues before slowing down to make way for a moshpart followed by a devastating break, then Extirpated Mortal Process revives those touches of complexity the band forcefully inserts into its suffocating rhythmic. Leishmaniasis comes next with the most sinister and oppressive sound of the whole album, letting palm-mutes create an apocalyptic atmosphere before going back to violence before a solo guides us to Visions of Eternal Suffering, a rather simple but furiously efficient and fast composition. The track doesn’t forget the slightly slower parts as well as Final Flesh Feast which exactly knows where to place its more worked and melodic parts to accentuate the moshparts’ rage before Stabbing, a quite short track, comes to hit straight to the point without any kind of mercy. The band allows us to breathe for a few moments with the introductory sample of Visceral Liquid Terror, a slightly slower composition which allows them to place some heartbreaking leads before charging again as Slashed Throat Awakening will flood us with fast and bloody riffs coupled with persistent strikes. The heavier finale will give way to It Ends with Flames, a compendium of raw violence sprinkled with heady tones before this massive break and bloody final, then to Pulsing Wound which closes the album in the purest tradition of Brutal/Slam Death Old School, coupling impressive sounds with bestial screams.

The slaughter’s hour has come! In just over half an hour, Stabbing will crush us relentlessly with riffs infused with bloody thick, inhuman rage and raw power. Extirpated Mortal Process is a future classic of Brutal Death Metal.

Few questions to Rene Martinez, Stabbing’s drummer.

Hello and first of all, thank you very much for your time! What is the link between the band’s name and the music you play?
Rene Martinez (drums): Well, we play Brutal Death Metal and the name Stabbing is a brutal act of violence, I guess that’s the link.

Extirpated Mortal Process, your first full-length, comes out in a few weeks now. How do you feel about it? Did you have some feedback?
Rene: I feel great about the album. Haven’t had too much feedback yet since it hasn’t officially come out yet.

Extirpated Mortal Process comes out after an excellent demo and an insane EP, how does the composition process happen for this one? Was it different from the beginning?
Rene: We kept the process the same for the album as we did for the demo and EP. Which is mainly Marvin and I throwing riffs and drum patterns back and forth until it becomes a song.

What inspires you to create your music, which is deeply anchored into Old School tones? Same question for the lyrics.
Rene: I just love to play Brutal Death Metal. Have been for nearly 20 years now. And as far as the lyrics I’m not sure because I didn’t write them.

Which song is the first one you created for this album? Which one was the hardest one to create?
Rene: I think the first one was Razor Wire Strangulation. I’m not 100 percent sure. We were writing different songs at different times. The hardest to create I would have to say “It Ends with Flames”.

You are signed on Comatose Music since the previous EP, how does the collaboration work with them?
Rene: Comatose is great and easy to work with.

Do you have plans for the band’s future? Whether it is about live shows, new material, or even anything else.
Rene: Yes we have a few shows coming up in the future and also confirmed for Hell and Heaven Open Air for 2023. There’s a couple more things in the works that I can’t talk about yet.

Are there any musicians or bands you would like to collaborate with? Whether it is for one song, an album…
Rene: I think it’d be cool to have a guest vocal spot on a song with Angel Ochoa (Disgorge, Abominable Putridity, Cephalotripsy, ex-Condemned…). I’ve always been a fan of his vocals and think it would be sick to hear on a Stabbing song.

Last question: which bands would you love to tour with? I let you create a tour (or just a single show) with Stabbing as opener and three other bands!
Rene: My dream lineup would be Cannibal Corpse, Severe Torture, Inveracity and Stabbing.
