Review 2035 : Karnak Seti – Restos – English

Two and a half years after their last release, Karnak Seti announce a new EP.

António Jesus (guitar), Cláudio Aguiar (bass), Luís Erre (vocals) and Luís Freitas (drums) are ready to unveil Restos.

The album kicks off with I Breathe the End, a relatively straightforward composition at first, which then takes on an air of mystery when the vocal parts come into play. A few jerky riffs energize the track, which also adopts modern keyboards before giving way to Restos, the eponymous song, which naturally combines groove and lively rhythm. We notice some vindictive Metalcore influences which disappear to let the solo impose a more majestic atmosphere, before In Loom adds some cutting harmonics to its aggressive approach. Cybernetic elements in the background also make a comeback to add an ominous note, while Down Beneath will play on much more energetic patterns combined with heady guitars to create a catchy sound that closes the EP, as well as a Folk-influenced break in the middle.

Karnak Seti mixes driving riffs, groove and a few darker additions to forge a sonic identity. Restos brings together some interesting ideas, but we’re also waiting for a touch of originality to really enjoy it.
