Review 2336 : Party Cannon – Injuries Are Inevitable – English

New anecdotes for Party Cannon.

Barely two years after their previous release, Stony (vocals), Craig Robinson (guitar, Disfigure the Insane), Chris Ryan (bass, Iniquitous Savagery, Laceration), Mike McLaughlin (guitar, Agonised Deformity) and Martin Gazur (drums, ex-Stabwound) announce the release of Injuries Are Inevitable, their third album.

The reason Party Cannon is so beloved – apart from its ultra-colored logo, which will always stand out on the posters they take part in, filled with the menacing designs of their fellow band members – is its music. You’d think it was all a big joke when you read the titles, such as Layne Staley Went Down The Slip n’ Slide, which is a true testament to a pronounced taste for black humor, but as you listen, you realize that the five musicians aren’t (just) here to make jokes! From Weird, But Not Illegal (where the introductory sample almost warns us off), we have all the Brutal Death and Slam Death elements in their compositions, whether in terms of the overpowering rhythm or the vocal parts, which go from growl to pig squeal via various strange noises, or Grindcore, such as Cannonball Loop and its furious accelerations. Some tracks also feature slower, more impressive passages, such as the lengthy Safety Is Not Priority and Bonus Ambulance, which will make any pit mosh, but the English don’t abandon their moshparts to close what can be called thirty-eight minutes of grease.

Party Cannon is a bit like the uncle at the family dinner table: he’s a bit of a redneck, he talks a lot of garbage, but in the end, he’s always there, and he’s indispensable! Injuries Are Inevitable will undoubtedly mark 2024 with its violence!
