Review 2452 : Remina – Erebus – English

Remina unveils its new EP.

Two years after their debut album, duo Mike Lamb (instruments, Lysithea, Light Field Reverie, Sojourner) and Heike Langhans (vocals, :LOR3L3I:, Light Field Reverie, ex-Draconian) offer us Erebus, released by Avantgarde Music.

The band is joined live by Bolthorn (bass, Ghostheart Nebula, Obsolete Theory), Mauro Ragnoli (guitar, (Echo)) and Riccardo Floridia (drums, Sojourner, ex-Atlas Pain).

Erebus, the title track, first transports us into its cosmic atmosphere, before letting Heike‘s heavy riffs and gentle voice intervene. The ethereal melodies easily capture our mind, which begins to wander to the rhythm of the melancholy strikes and tones, which cease for a moment to allow Cinderfall to settle in, darkening the sound. The duo lay down a soothing veil of softness that couples with the ominous keyboards in the background, also covering the riffs that eventually emerge on the second half of the track, setting the scene for Siren’s Sleep. The last of the three compositions is also the longest, and welcomes Emilio Crespo (Sojourner) on vocals and Renan Bianchi (HellLight, Voiden) on drums, giving its ethereal atmosphere rawer, more violent touches.

With these three new tracks, Remina keeps us waiting with its gentle, haunting riffs. Erebus is sure to captivate fans, and shows the band’s creativity when it comes to melancholy.
