Daedric Shryne finally brings his music to life.
Started in 2020, the project featuring Nils Groth (drums/backing vocals, Heretoir, The Cold, ex-Ophis), Alex Shirazi (vocals/keyboards), André Büchner (guitar/bass/keyboards) and Frederic Eden (dive bombs/backing vocals) offers us this year Daedric Shryne, its first EP.
Aether, the EP’s introduction, offers a soothing, soaring sound to start things off gently, before meeting the livelier rhythm of Birth and its catchy Heavy roots. Various vocal parts come together, and the Old School approach carries us into Awakening, where we finally discover the first energetic riffs armed with scathing harmonics to match the vocals. The composition passes quickly enough, but Dominion follows in its wake, asserting NWOBHM influences as well as a few more piercing Thrash touches that reinforce the aggression, or on the contrary, soothing backing vocals. We continue with the martial nad jerky Downfall which, after a sympathetic and accessible intro, becomes more rhythmic and restless, before finally joining Reflection, a melodious piano outro, joined by the guitar, which calmly closes the EP.
Daedric Shryne allows Daedric Shryne to introduce itself to the world of Heavy Metal, revealing its influences and ambition. I’d need a bit more to have a real opinion, but what I’ve heard sounds promising.
