No rest for Revolting!
Barely two years after their last misdeed, the band comprising “Revolting Rogga” Johansson (guitar/vocals, Paganizer, Mecascavenger, Echelon, Ribspreader…), Grotesque Tobias (bass) and Mutated Martin (drums) announce the release of Night Of The Horrid, their ninth album, in cooperation with Xtreem Music.
The Swedish chainsaw appears from the very first moments of Seven Severed Heads, which features aggressive riffs, but also Rogga‘s powerful voice and a few moans in the background. The razor-sharp melodies of the choruses are perfectly integrated with the track’s rage, as on Blades Will Cut where the leads become much more present, letting the rhythmic beat crush us as they fly around us. Night of the Horrid quickly follows, bringing its own fix of Old School violence with a hint of melancholy in some of the slower leads, but the solo completely changes the game before giving way to Hell from the Sky, where the airy touch appears in the opening moments. The rest of the composition is made up of energetic moments and intriguing harmonics, but the melodies return on A Song for the Morbid, not forgetting to mingle with a fairly simple but effective base that knows how to accelerate for the blast to molest us. We quickly move on to Shapeshifter, where a few keyboards add a horrific atmosphere to the massive riffs, then Swipe of the Schyte offers a catchy, groovy approach thanks to a jerky base. The guitar is lost to create a mysterious sound, and then The Final Journey rolls over us in its turn, opting at first for very aggressive patterns that eventually turn into more heady moments, but the solo changes everything by offering pure, unadulterated shredding. Mallet and Mask follows with this heavy disquieting tone in a certain slowness, albeit with a few more powerful waves, then more modern tones appear on Outro, the final composition, reminding us of a mix between Synthwave, Post-Rock and the disconcerting inspirations that close the album.
Death Metal fans already know all about Revolting, and the band regularly brings us a good fix of HM-2. Night Of The Horrid is no exception, and it’s always a pleasure to listen to the new tracks!
