Review 2595 : Obscureviolence – Refuting the Flesh – English

Obscureviolence unveils its debut album.

Created by two members of Russian band Horror God, Sergey B. (bass/vocals) and Sergey T. (guitar), and drummer Dmitry L., the trio signs to Transcending Obscurity Records and unveils their debut EP, Refuting the Flesh.

Exodus first lets us into the darkness, where we become acquainted with the few noises around us, then finally with the abrasive, dissonant blackness that bludgeons us mercilessly. Riffs eventually slow down and lead into Refuting the Flesh, the eponymous track, which unveils the first vocal parts for even greater savagery, reinforcing the Old School rhythm and its communicative aggression. The guitarist even allows himself some chaotic lead parts, then it’s with the suffocating Source of Life that the band crushes us, first very slowly, then with livelier, more violent patterns, alternating the two to reinforce its bursts of rage before letting Spiritual Agony take over with a similar approach, devoid of any form of gentleness. The second half of the track is slower but just as agonizing, allowing us to breathe for a few moments before the onslaught resumes, leading us to The Absurdity of Existence and its hellish patterns that leave us little respite and roll over us almost non-stop. Pulse of Subconscious Cruelty takes over to close this first chapter with the same violence as before, taking advantage of this raw Old School mix to turn the riffs into veritable blocks of darkness that pour down on us.

With this first effort, Obscureviolence reveal themselves to us in a very raw way, making Refuting the Flesh a good introduction. The riffs take advantage of their dissonance to trample us in due form.
