Between Nothing are back with a new EP!
Entitled Ghost, it follows on from the Poles’ 2017 debut, and reunites us with Tomasz Frackowiak (guitar/vocals) and Tomasz Ptraszynski (vocals), as well as Patryk Szuminski (bass), Albert Belka (guitar) and Eryk Lange (guitar).
Distant Place greets us with ominous keyboards and a few steady strokes, leading into the eponymous Ghost, a song that revives the melodic death with its raw, cutting thrash roots, where the aggressive vocal parts find their perfect place. These are of course complemented by driving harmonics that accentuate the jerky nature of the track, just as on Lost Faith, which allows itself some heartfelt Old School acceleration to create a contrast with its more modern additions. Fate Masters already sounds much more upbeat, almost Power Metal-like in its soaring melodies, but the screams are never far away to confirm the track’s violence. We continue with Dahlia, which returns to aggressive tones barely soothed by piercing leads, but the track is ultimately rather short, and quickly gives way to Fathomed in Greed, where we find elements conducive to headbangs and other more or less controlled crowd movements, such as the frenetic guitars and the few lively blasts. The track remains rhythmic even in its slower moments, before moving on to Suffer and Goodbye, with its catchy American Metalcore influences and a more impressive touch, to close the EP with the same energy as its opening moments.
While Between Nothing is rooted in the basics of Melodic Death, the band doesn’t rule out additional influences, whether modern or more ancient. Whatever your scene, Ghost is sure to please.
