Quelques questions à Boris Behara, tête pensante du projet de Black Metal Tryglav, après son concert au Hellfest Open Air 2025 par Raven.
Alors, c’est Tryglav, je l’ai bien prononcé ?
Boris Behara : Oui, certains disent “Tryglav”, d’autres “Tryglaf”. Mais la prononciation correcte devrait être “Tryglav”, mais ça m’est égal. Ne t’inquiète pas, il n’y a pas de problème.
Tout d’abord, ravi de te rencontrer et merci de m’accorder un peu de ton temps. Comment te sens-tu ?
Boris : Bien, je me sens bien, mis à part le temps qui me tue, mais je me sens bien. Le concert s’est très bien passé, c’était génial. C’était super.
Tryglav a joué tout à l’heure sur la Temple, comment s’est passé le concert pour toi ? As-tu apprécié l’expérience ?
Boris : Oui, j’ai apprécié. D’habitude, avant le concert, je me sens toujours un peu tendu, beaucoup, même. Étant introverti, j’ai besoin d’un peu de temps pour m’habituer, mais aujourd’hui, ça s’est très bien passé. Dès que l’intro a commencé, je me suis concentré sur la musique et je peux dire que c’était probablement le meilleur concert du groupe jusqu’à présent. Jusqu’à présent cette année, mais en général, de tous les concerts que nous avons donnés, c’était le meilleur à mon avis. J’étais vraiment content du résultat.
Raven : C’est l’effet Hellfest.
Boris : Oui, le public était génial, il y avait beaucoup de monde, c’était tout simplement génial.
Tryglav était initialement prévu pour 2024, mais a dû annuler. Que signifie pour vous le fait de pouvoir enfin jouer au Hellfest ?
Boris : Cela signifie beaucoup, car l’annulation a été très difficile. C’est comme un rêve qui se réalise, être invité à jouer dans un grand festival. Mais avec ce groupe, j’ai toujours dit qu’il y avait une règle. Si ça ne marche pas, ça ne marche pas. J’ai donc vu que nous n’étions pas prêts l’année dernière, il y avait beaucoup de problèmes avec les line-ups et je me suis dit : “Je ne vais pas aller à l’un des plus grands festivals d’Europe pour jouer comme de la merde”. J’ai donc mis le groupe en pause pendant presque toute l’année 2024. Et puis j’ai trouvé les gars. Ils sont vraiment bons, non seulement techniquement, mais aussi sur le plan humain. On a plutôt l’impression d’être des amis, et tout a commencé à très bien fonctionner. Heureusement, on a été reprogrammés pour le Hellfest de cette année, donc je peux dire que j’ai vraiment de la chance.
Raven : Et comment était le public de ton point de vue ?
Boris : Le public était génial. Il était très participatif et vraiment incroyable, je dois dire, probablement l’un des meilleurs que nous ayons rencontrés.
Raven : Je vais rougir.
Comment vous êtes-vous préparés pour le concert et comment avez-vous établi la setlist que vous allez jouer ?
Boris : Eh bien, étant donné que c’est le deuxième album qui a rendu le groupe plus visible auprès de la communauté Metal, nous jouons presque toutes les nouvelles chansons, puis nous ajoutons quelques chansons du premier album. En général, je répète chez moi, et tout le groupe répète en Slovénie, donc nous nous retrouvons généralement deux ou trois jours avant chaque concert, nous répétons, nous préparons nos affaires et nous partons.
Votre dernier album, The Ritual, est sorti en 2023. Avez-vous déjà commencé à travailler sur de nouveaux morceaux ?
Boris : En fait, j’ai déjà terminé le nouvel album. Il est terminé depuis un certain temps, mais il me faut encore écrire les paroles, enregistrer les voix et faire quelques ajustements. Il y aura davantage d’éléments orchestraux, des éléments plus raffinés, et il faudra réenregistrer certaines parties, car je suis très pointilleux. Ce sera également le premier album sur lequel je chanterai. D’habitude, j’écris les paroles et les mélodies vocales, mais je laisse toujours quelqu’un d’autre chanter.
Raven : Tu n’es pas pointilleux, tu es perfectionniste.
Boris : Oui, en ce qui concerne le groupe, oui. Pour le reste, non, mais pour le groupe, c’est pour ça que j’attends toujours pour enregistrer les voix, etc. Tout doit être parfait, puis le producteur, puis le gars qui va faire la pochette de l’album, et tout doit être parfait.
Raven : As-tu une idée de la date à laquelle tu sortiras le nouvel album ?
Boris : Eh bien, je pensais le sortir cette année, mais j’ai été littéralement absent tout le temps jusqu’à présent. Je ne serai donc probablement pas libre avant août, et ensuite nous aurons probablement quelques dates de concerts en novembre. Je ne sais pas si je pourrai le terminer cette année, mais je pense que ce sera probablement entre cette année et le début de l’année prochaine. Pas si loin.
Et aujourd’hui, comment as-tu recruté les musiciens qui jouent avec toi sur scène ?
Boris : Je dois remercier le bassiste, en fait. J’étais ami avec sa petite amie, et c’est elle qui me l’a recommandé quand j’ai commencé à chercher des musiciens. Il connaît beaucoup de monde. C’est lui qui a trouvé Giuseppe, notre guitariste. Il est italien mais vit en Autriche, et il est déjà musicien de tournée avec différents groupes comme Crystal Viper et d’autres, et à partir de là, il m’a aussi suggéré le batteur, qui est un gars qui vit à deux heures de chez eux, il n’a que 22 ans et il est incroyable comme batteur, c’est comme ça que j’ai trouvé les gars, c’est comme ça que nous sommes devenus amis et tout fonctionne jusqu’à présent, donc oui.
Raven : Est-ce qu’ils participeront au nouvel album ?
Boris : Non, c’est toujours un groupe solo. Ils joueront juste en live. Je vais probablement avoir des solos que Giuseppe enregistrera parce que je ne suis pas doué pour ça, mais pour le reste, la batterie, la basse, le chant, la musique, ce sera encore moi.
Raven : Au moins pour le moment, tu veux être le seul ?
Boris : Oui, ce sera un groupe solo parce que j’ai essayé dans le passé avec beaucoup de groupes différents, ça n’a jamais marché et j’aime juste faire les choses tout seul. Ce n’est pas difficile, c’est juste frustrant parfois parce qu’il faut penser à beaucoup de choses et tout doit fonctionner. Il faut réfléchir. Tu es le seul à devoir payer le producteur, tout, mais cela permet d’avoir un contrôle total sur la musique, donc tu sais ce que tu aimes. Et ce sera aussi ce que tu as toujours aimé, disons que tu sais ce que tu composes et qu’il n’y aura pas d’ingérence extérieure, je dirais. Je suis peut-être un peu maniaque du contrôle, j’ai essayé avec beaucoup de groupes, mais tout le monde apporte quelque chose et je n’aime pas ça, mais peut-être que les autres aiment ça et je finis par jouer des trucs que je n’aime pas, alors je me rends compte qu’en grandissant, beaucoup de gens perdent leur passion. Et c’est comme ça que j’ai perdu beaucoup de groupes et puis je me suis dit… “pourquoi est-ce que je dois perdre encore plus de temps ?”. J’ai donc tout commencé seul à 30 ans, j’ai 36 ans maintenant et tout va très bien. Tout se passe très bien.
En plus d’être le cerveau de Tryglav, tu es également youtubeur sous le nom de BorisT, tu réalises des vlogs et tu nous emmènes découvrir des lieux emblématiques du Black Metal en Norvège, le pays où tu vis actuellement. Comment as-tu décidé de créer une chaîne YouTube ?
Boris : C’était pendant la pandémie. J’avais commencé avant, quand je travaillais encore dans une entreprise normale. C’était en fait pour Tryglav. Je faisais juste une reprise des chansons de Tryglav. Puis j’ai fait une reprise de Mayhem, le solo de Freezing Moon, juste pour le plaisir. Je n’ai pas vérifié pendant environ deux mois, puis au bout de deux mois, j’ai vu que la vidéo marchait bien. Je me suis dit “hé, ça pourrait marcher”, et j’ai toujours aimé faire des vidéos, et euh, quand la pandémie est arrivée, j’ai dû subir une opération à cœur ouvert et je me suis dit “si je le fais, c’est maintenant ou jamais”, alors…
Raven : Je comprends.
Boris : Alors j’ai essayé, j’ai travaillé dur pendant deux ans et nous y voilà !
Raven : J’espère que tu vas mieux !
Boris : Oh oui, après deux opérations à cœur ouvert, malgré le temps !
Tu es croate, tu vivais auparavant en Italie, mais tu as maintenant déménagé en Norvège. Comment as-tu vécu tous ces déménagements ?
Boris : Le déménagement a en fait commencé quand j’ai démissionné en Italie parce que je voulais avoir une vie meilleure, disons en Norvège. Pour le groupe aussi, je pensais que ce serait beaucoup plus facile de trouver des musiciens en Norvège. Et quand j’ai démissionné, le COVID est arrivé, et YouTube aussi. Donc, en deux ans, j’ai réussi à tout gérer. J’ai aussi rencontré ma petite amie, et c’est une chose qui s’est enchaînée avec l’autre, et je me suis retrouvé en Norvège à la fin. Oui, pour l’instant, tout va bien. On verra ce que l’avenir nous réserve.
Raven : Je croise les doigts pour toi. Tu es vraiment souriant !
Boris : Je pense que je suis plutôt heureux.
Tu prévois d’aller voir des groupes aujourd’hui ?
Boris : Oui, je prévois d’aller voir Judas Priest. Je prévois aussi d’aller voir Scorpions. Steve Vai aussi, et Joe Satriani. Je pense qu’ils vont jouer aujourd’hui. Je regardais Miles Kennedy tout à l’heure. J’aime beaucoup sa voix et ce qu’il a fait avec Alter Bridge. Et puis je ne me souviens plus quels autres groupes jouent, mais… Je vois à peine, il y a le groupe hommage à Bathory, évidemment Grima, les gars avec qui on a joué au Ragnarok, ce sont des gars géniaux, on a discuté tout à l’heure. Je voulais voir Witch Club Satan, mais ils ont joué avant nous.
Raven : Oui, je les ai vus, c’était plutôt cool.
Boris : Je voulais voir Agriculture, c’est le groupe qui a joué après nous, et ils sont vraiment bons, avec des gars super sympas de Los Angeles si je ne me trompe pas.
Raven : Mais le nom est assez drôle.
Le Hellfest était votre tout premier concert en France, aimerais-tu revenir jouer en France ? Que diriez-vous d’une tournée ou de plusieurs concerts à la suite ?
Boris : J’adorerais, j’adorerais vraiment, j’aime beaucoup la campagne française. Je n’étais jamais venu ici, donc c’était une nouvelle expérience, et j’aime aussi beaucoup l’architecture des maisons. C’est vraiment très beau et j’aimerais beaucoup revenir ! En fait, nous avons maintenant une agence. Et comme je l’ai dit, il y a quelques dates prévues pour novembre. Nous verrons ensuite. Que se passera-t-il l’année prochaine ? Nous avons probablement cette mini-tournée que nous essayons d’organiser avec eux, et après cela, nous serons de plus en plus nombreux. Je leur ai simplement dit de commencer doucement et de voir comment les choses se passent.
La dernière question est amusante : à quel plat comparerais-tu la musique de Tryglav ?
Boris : C’est une question difficile. Je dirais une pizza, tu sais pourquoi ? Parce qu’il y a une base qui ressemble au Black Metal Mélodique.
Raven : Mais il y a de l’ananas.
Boris : Non, pas d’ananas, les Italiens me tueraient. J’ai grandi en Italie, donc ma copine adore cette pizza, et chaque fois que je la vois manger, je la regarde fixement. Je lui dis : “Ma fille, j’ai grandi avec des Italiens, tu es en danger si tu fais ça !”
Raven : Je suis à ? italienne, donc oui.
Boris : OK, donc tu comprends ça ! Mais oui, la pizza, parce que le genre que je joue est comme du Black Metal Mélodique, mais j’ai aussi d’autres influences. On peut parfois entendre du Heavy Metal. Il y a beaucoup de solos dans certaines chansons. Il y a un peu de thrash metal dans le premier album. C’est comme du Black Mélodique, mais avec différentes influences, et le nouvel album sera pareil. Il sera différent de The Ritual, tout comme The Ritual était différent de Night of Whispering Souls. C’est une évolution, cela dépend de ce que je fais quand je compose et de ce qui m’inspire. C’est tout simplement ça.
Raven : Donc une pizza avec différentes couches, différents thèmes.
Boris : Exactement, oui, une pizza avec différentes couches et différents thèmes.
C’était ma dernière question, as-tu un dernier mot pour le public français ?

A few questions to Boris Behara, thinking head behind the Black Metal project Tryglav, after his show at Hellfest Open Air 2025 by Raven.
So, it’s Tryglav, did I pronounce it correctly?
Boris Behara: Yeah, some people say “Tryglav”, some people say “Tryglaf”. But the correct ones should be “Tryglav”, but I don’t mind. Don’t worry, there’s no problem.
First of all, nice to meet you and thank you for your time. How do you feel?
Boris: Good, I feel good beside the weather, which is really killing me, but I’m feeling good. The show went great and it was great. It was awesome.
Tryglav played earlier on the Temple stage, how was the show for you? Did you enjoy the experience?
Boris: Yes, I enjoy it. Usually before the show I always feel a little bit of stances, a lot, quite a lot. As an introvert, it takes me a little bit to get used to it, but uh today went really well. As soon as the intro started, I started to focus on the music and I can say that was probably the best show so far for the band. So far this year but in general, all the shows that we did, this was the best one in my opinion. I was really happy about it, how it came out.
Raven: That’s Hellfest’s effect.
Boris: Yeah, also the crowd was awesome and there were a lot of people and it was just awesome.
Tryglav was originally scheduled for 2024 but had to cancel, so what does finally playing Hellfest mean for you?
Boris: Means a lot because it was really hard to cancel. It’s like a dream that comes true, you get invited to play a big festival. But with this band, I always said one rule. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. So I’ve seen that we weren’t ready last year, there were a lot of problems with lineups and I was like “I’m not going to one of the biggest festivals in Europe to play like shit”. So I put the band on pause for almost the entire 2024. And then I found the guys. They’re really good, not only technically but also. It feels more like we are friends, and everything started to work great and fortunately we got rebooked for this year of Hellfest, so I can say I’m really lucky.
Raven: And how was the audience from your point of view?
Boris: The audience was great. It was really participating and was just an amazing crowd, I have to say, probably one of the best that we have encountered.
Raven: I will blush.
How did you get prepared for the concert, and how did you build the setlist you will play?
Boris: Well, considering that the second album is the one that made the band, let’s say, more visible to the Metal community, we play almost the entire set of new songs and then we have a couple of songs from the first album. And usually I practice at home, and the entire band practices in Slovenia, so we usually meet 2 or 3 days before every concert, we practice, we pack stuff and there we go.
Your latest album The Ritual was released back in 2023, did you already begin to work on new material?
Boris: I actually have the album finished, a new album. It’s finished for a while, but I still need lyrics and vocals and some adjustments also. There will be some more orchestral stuff, some polished stuff and it has to be re-record, I’m really picky. And this will be the first album where I will be the singer. So usually I always wrote like the lyrics and the vocal patterns, but I always let someone else sing on it.
Raven: You’re not picky, you’re a perfectionist.
Boris: Yeah, when it comes to the band, yeah. On other stuff, no, but with the band, that’s why I’m still waiting to record the vocals, etc. Everything has to be perfect, then the producer, then the guy that will do the cover album, and it has to be perfect.
Raven: So do you have an estimate when you will release the new album?
Boris: Well, I was thinking about releasing it this year, but I’ve literally been out all the time till now. So I will not be free till August probably, and then we are probably having some dates playing in november. I don’t know if I will be able to finish it this year, but probably between this year and the beginning of the next one is what I have in mind. Not so far.
What about today, how did you hire the musicians who play on stage with you?
Boris: I have to thank the bassist actually. The bassist, I was friends with his girlfriend, so she suggested him to me, when I started to search for people, and he knows a lot of people. He found Giuseppe, our guitarist. He’s Italian but lives in Austria, and he’s already a touring musician with different bands like Crystal Viper and other guys, and from that, he also suggested me the drummer, which is a guy that lives 2 hours from where they live, and he’s just 22 years old and he’s amazing as a drummer, that’s how I found the guys, that’s how we become friends and everything is working out till now, so yeah.
Raven: So, will they participate in the new album?
Boris: No, this is still a one-man band. They will just play live. I will probably have solos that Giuseppe will record because I’m not good with that, but for the rest, drums, bass, vocals, music, it will be me again.
Raven: At least for the moment you want to be the only one?
Boris: Yeah, it will be a one man band because I tried in the past with many different bands, it never worked and I just like to do the stuff on my own. It’s not difficult, it’s kind of frustrating sometimes because you have to think about a lot of things and everything has to work. You have to think then. You are the only one who has to pay the producer, everything, but it has this approach which is a complete control over the music so you know what you like. And it will also be what you always loved, let’s say you know what you compose and there will not be interference from the outside, I’d say. Maybe a bit of a control freak, I tried with many bands, but then everybody brings something and I don’t like it, but maybe other guys like it and I end up playing stuff that I don’t love, so I figure out that growing up many people lose the passion. And that’s how I lost many bands and then I’m like… “why do I have to waste more of my time?”. So I started everything alone when I was 30, I’m 36 now and everything is great. Everything is going great.
In addition to being the thinking head of Tryglav, you’re also a youtuber under the name BorisT, making vlogs and taking us to discover iconic places of Black Metal in Norway, the country you now live in. How did you decide to start a YouTube channel?
Boris: It was during the pandemic. I started it before, like when I was still working in a normal company. It was for Tryglav actually. I was just doing a playthrough of Tryglav songs. And then I did just a Mayhem cover, the solo of Freezing Moon just for fun. And I didn’t check it for like 2 months, and then after 2 months, I saw that the video was going good. I was like “hey, this can be something”, and I always love doing videos and uh when pandemic came, I had to have my open heart surgery and was like, “if I do it, it’s now or never” so…
Raven: I can understand.
Boris: So I tried, I pushed hard for two years and here we are!
Raven: And I hope you are better!
Boris: Oh yeah, after two open heart surgeries despite the weather!
You are Croatian, and previously lived in Italy, but now you relocated to Norway, how did you live all those relocations?
Boris: The relocation actually started when I fired myself in Italy because I wanted to have a better life, let’s say in Norway. Also for the band, I was thinking that when I have to find musicians it will be much easier in Norway. And when I fired myself, automatically COVID came, and also the YouTube part came. So in those 2 years I was able to manage everything. I also met my girlfriend and that’s one thing that happened after the other one and I found myself in Norway at the end. Yeah now everything is good for now. We’ll see in the future.
Raven: I’m crossing fingers for you. You’re really smiling and so!
Boris: I think I’m quite happy.
Do you plan to see some bands today?
Boris: Yes, I’m planning to see Judas Priest. I plan to see Scorpions. Steve Vai also and Joe Satriani. I think they will play today. I was watching Miles Kennedy before. I really like his voice and the stuff he did with Alter Bridge. And then I don’t remember what other bands are playing, but… I can barely see, there’s the tribute band of Bathory, obviously Grima, the guys that we played with in Ragnarok they’re great guys, we talked before. I wanted to enjoy Witch Club Satan, but they played before us.
Raven: Yeah, I saw them, that was quite cool.
Boris: I wanted to see Agriculture, it’s the band who played after us, and they’re really good, with really nice guys from LA if I’m not mistaken.
Raven: But the name is pretty funny.
Hellfest was the very first show in France, would you like to come back to play in France? What about some tours, or many shows in a row?
Boris: I would love it, I would really love it actually, I enjoy the countryside in France. I’ve never been here, so it was an experience and I also like a lot of the architecture of the houses. It’s really, really beautiful and I would love to go back! Actually we now have an agency. And as I say, there’s some dates for November. And we will see then. What happens next year because we have this mini tour probably, that we are trying to organize with them and after that we will be more and more and more. I just told them let’s start slow and see how things are going.
The last question is a fun one: to which dish would you compare Tryglav’s music?
Boris: This is a hard one. I guess like a pizza, you know why? Because there’s a base that is like Melodic Black Metal.
Raven: But there’s a pineapple.
Boris: No, no pineapple, Italians will kill me. I grew up in Italy, so my girlfriend loves that pizza, and every time I see her eating, I’m staring at her. I’m like, girl, I grew up with Italians, you’re in danger if you do that!
Raven: I’m ? Italian, so yeah.
Boris: Okay, so you understand that! But yeah, pizza because the genre that I play is like Melodic Black Metal, but I also have other influences. You can sometimes hear Heavy Metal. There’s a lot of solos in some songs. There’s some Thrash Metal in the first album. It’s like a Melodic Black, but with different influences, and the new album will be the same. It will be different from The Ritual, as the ritual was different from Night of Whispering Souls, it’s an evolution, it depends on what I’m doing when I compose and what inspired me. It’s all about that.
Raven: So a pizza with different layers, different topics.
Boris: Exactly, yeah, a pizza with different layers and topics.
That was the last question for me, do you have any last words for the French audience?
