Slaughterday knows how to keep us waiting.
Eager to keep our ears busy before their next album, Jens Finger (guitar/bass, Temple of Dread) and Bernd Reiners (vocals/drums, ex-BK 49) decided to pay tribute to the pioneers of grindcore with a short EP, Terrified.

We kick off with Ashes Of The Innocent which immediately tramples us in the face with a devastating blast beat, over which riffs and screams naturally graft themselves, adding to the violence an abrasive sound with virulent but catchy Death/Grind roots. A groovy passage tempers the aggression, but it quickly resumes before moving on to Fleshtorn Future, the longest of the four compositions, which reaches three minutes and offers a unifying intro before launching into its jerky rhythm. The rhythm is slightly less sustained than on the previous track, but it makes us want to bang our heads just as much before gradually fading out to let Terrified, the eponymous track, take over at full speed with tortured but violent patterns. The Old School touches are more than obvious, as on Chained To Oblivion, which closes the EP with a final fix of simple but effective riffs that keep us on the edge of our seats until the final feedback.
Nothing new under the sun, Grind remains stupid and nasty, but this little tribute by Slaughterday is still very enjoyable. Terrified offers a handful of catchy riffs that will keep us going for a few more months until the next lesson!
