Review 3055 : Arbre-dieu – Nuit Noire – English

Arbre-dieu blossoms from violence.

Conceived in 2022 by Adz. (Thy Apokalypse, Reflecting the Light, Kaamosmasennus, Salaman Isku, .eterniteduchaos.), the project finally came to life in 2025 with the release of the first EP, Nuit Noire, on Bitume Prods.

Graines de la folie instantly transports us with its anguished sounds that close in around us like a heavy leaden blanket, while a minimalist rhythm sets in, bringing with it raw dissonance and oppressive ambient elements. The riffs explode suddenly, giving way to a few roars that reinforce the omnipresent aggression, but the sound eventually calms down and becomes hazy again, leading into the aptly named Tourbillon chaotique, where the harmonics lose themselves in a frenzied dance. The track bursts into flames while maintaining its unpredictable fury on the lead side, which adds an extra abrasive touch, and the mix gradually destroys our eardrums without warning before moving on to La vieille femme et le soleil pâle, which takes over with palpable aggression. The gravelly lyrics return to accompany the shrill melodies, as if to hammer the point home a little more, but the track is quite short, and Mort et renaissance follows suit, restarting the devastating machine, this time with a more accessible and heady touch on the bass, which contrasts greatly with the base and allows us to keep our heads above water before a sudden finale.

Arbre-dieu perfectly embraces its abrasive sounds drawn from Raw Black Metal while keeping an icy touch. Nuit Noire returns to the roots of the style and never strays from it under any circumstances.
