Review 3490 : Vomitorial Corpulence – Martyrdomical Symphonanthem – English

Vomitorial Corpulence has awakened from its slumber.

Active in Australia in the early ’90s under the leadership of its founder Paul Green, the band released two albums, appeared on two compilations, and then went on hiatus in 2008. Against all odds, Green returned in 2026 with Martyrdomical Symphonanthem, his third album, in collaboration with Rottweiler Records.

For those (myself included) who weren’t yet aware, the band is the pioneer of a style called “Christian GoreGrind”, whose blend is as surprising as it is effective! While the logo’s design will speak to all fans of violent music, I can assure you that the forty-one tracks (or at least forty-one tracks plus an intro) dedicated to both brutality and religion are incredibly powerful, and while – in keeping with Grindcore tradition – they’re fairly short, you’re in for a solid hour of blast beats, screeching vocals, and frenzied riffs! Each track combines rage with flawless execution by its creator, and while some may be surprised by the titles used (James the Greater Cut Down? Passio sanctarum Perpetuae Felicitatis? Heromartyr Antipas, the Bishop of Pergamum?), don’t be fooled—you’re undoubtedly going to be hit right in the face by a relatively Old School and abrasive sound.

I knew absolutely nothing about either the band or Christian GoreGrind, but there’s no denying that Vomitorial Corpulence exists, and that Martyrdomical Symphonanthem is going to deliver a nasty blow to its audience!
