Review 551 : Sanguisugabogg – Tortured Whole – English

Two years after their first demo, Sanguisugabogg presents an album.

Created in 2019, the band quickly drops its first mischief. Devin Swank (vocals, Limbsplitter), Cameron Boggs (guitar, Navi?m), Cody Davidson (drums, Crypt Hammer, Murderman) and Ced Davis (bass, ex-Sermos), the new member, offer us Tortured Whole.

The album begins with Menstrual Envy, an as greasy and delicate song as the name can let us speculate, borrowing from Old School Brutal Death this explosive snare sound, those cavernous howlings and those oily but groovy riffs, like the crushing Gored In The Chest. The song is slower but still heavy, letting the band placing haunting harmonics before this acceleration that picks into Grindcore. Dragged By A Truck isn’t softer in fact, and the band’s blood-stained riffs are effective. Short break with Pornographic, an interlude of which scary quietness contrasts with heaviness on Dead As Shit. Simple, effective and thick, the song falls upon us as a corpse in its hole, then the rhythmic rolls over us. Tortured Whole, the longest song of this album, develops those heady riffs, then accelerate them, extend them and the mixing is as catchy as explosive, but still impressive. New break with Interlude, some noisy strange composition, then Dick Filet has the mission to make us sink again in this raw violence that makes us nod thanks to a massive greasy stock. Urinary Ichor begins very slowly, but once the machine has started, the acceleration is progressive and unstoppable, then the short Posthumous Compersion comes to spread some groovy riffs before Felching Filth, the last song. No big changes into the band’s recipe, a boiling rhythmic greasy enough to obstruct your arteries.

Sanguisugabogg comes back to Brutal Death/Grind with simple but effective riffs. Tortured Whole’s sound is as greasy and heavy as it is Old School, offering a hooking groove and bloody-tasting violent riffs.
