Review 598 : Wednesday 13 – Necrophaze – Antidote – English

Surprise! Wednesday13 drops an EP!

Since 1992, Joseph “Wednesday 13” Poole (vocals, ex-Murderdolls, ex-Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, ex-Bourbon Crow…) offers some unique kind of Punk with Gothic influences. Accompanied by Roman Surman (guitar), Jack Tankersley (guitar), Troy Doebbler (bass) and Kyle Castronovo (drums), the musician offers us Necrophaze – Antidote, mixed by Michael Spreitzer (Devildriver) !

We begin with an energetic cover of Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, his former band, named Your Mother Still Sucks Coks In Hell. The singer’s very own vocal tone wonderfully accompanies this motivating song, that will talk to long time fans, then it’s with the short Screwdriver 2 – The Return and its catchy backing vocals that the band invites us to nod. The rhythmic is simple but effective, proving the american musician and his gang are still in good shape before Devil Inside, a heavy cover from INXS. This ballsy and catchy Alternative Rock perfectly meets the band’s style, then it is with Films, a cover of Gary Numan, that the EP ends, accompanied by Calico Cooper, daughter of Alice Cooper. A horrific and oppressive ambience welcomes the duo for a composition that perfectly fits the singer’s universe.

Wednesday 13 always ensured to create a special ambiance to each of his songs, and Necrophaze – Antidote is no exception. Covers has the same treatment, creating additional sonorities to his discography.
