Review 601 : Wilczyca – DracoNequissime – English

Third album for Wilczyca.

Created in 2019 in Poland by Nidhogg (vocals) and Louve (all instruments), the band accompanied on stage by Hellgoat (bass) and Nemorous (drums) releases two albums in 2020, then DrakoNequissime comes in 2021.

The duo plays an Old School Black Metal with dirty sound that immediately strikes with the virulent Nienawidze Jezusa Chrystusa. We have a Punk spirit in those simple but unhealthy and effective riffs, just like into those morbid screams, then we find a sharp melody full of rage on Sic Luceat Lux, a dark and very raw song. Very few technicality, just an impure and raging effectiveness, that drops us on Drako Nequissime, a more melodic and soaring song that still keeps this dirt in the sound. The rhythmic will finally explode before adding some ambient elements again before Jeszcze zemsci sie ziemia, a song introduced by clean sounding words and psalms. The composition’s influences are mainly based on a brutal Pagan Metal, while we go back to an unhealthy Black Metal on Czarny oltarz. The song is quite ambient, while striking with violent and sharp riffs until the end. The band leaves us after Nema, a long instrumental track that melts heady and soft riffs with a solid and violent Black Metal. A quite strange but catchy break, then the rhythmic comes back to the final part.

Wilczyca makes us sink back to this first wave of raw Black Metal with DrakoNequissime, a direct and energetic album. Dirty and unholy sound lovers will love it, but the album won’t please everybody.
