Review 612 : Feradur – Parakosm – English

Two years after its second album, Feradur offers an EP.

Entitled Parakosm, it follow the legacy of the previous works of the band composed of Mich « Thunder » Strock (guitar, Frostland), « D- » Mich Weber (drums, Behold), Fridtjof « Fridge ov Dvvm » Kielgast (bass), Dan « Nina Edelgold » Gloden (guitar) and Mario Hann (vocals, Bongtomy).

Midas (Materia Prima) comes first with a soft introduction, that slowly wears dissonant melodies until this explosion that drives us to a melting between Old School sonorities, airy riffs and powerful howlings. We find this so accurate mix made by Jens Bogren (Amon Amarth, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy…), perfectly placing every instrument, as well as a guest appearance from Mike Bertemes (Kraton) for a rage that is spreaded until Crest of Betrayal, a song influenced by 80/90s Heavy Metal. Whether leads are quite soft, the rhythmic basis is very solid, and it allows guitar to fully express themselves while picking into every influence possible, just like those howlings that go from black depths to the most piercing tones.
The band picks into pure energy for the moving Saviours, a song influenced by quite epic swedish sounding Death/Thrash to make us headbang while they place their complex harmonics. Fastness will be the watchword on Tetsuo, the next track, closely followed by effectiveness and rage, offering a seizing firepower before the dark introduction of HostOf The Nightmare. The song is heady and haunting, offering to piercing sounds a heavy basis to strike effectively. This seizing contrast between rhythmic and leads also let place to a technical dissonance to close the EP.

Feradur’s universe is composed of multiple influences. Parakosm channels them all and make them meet on a both violent and melodic domain, creating a seizing and heady basis of which roots are perfectly recognizable.
