Caliban is back and the pit is open.
After eleven albums, the german Metalcore band offers us Zeitgeister, its new EP. About the line-up, nothing has changed: Andreas Dörner (vocals), Marc Görtz (guitar), Denis Schmidt (guitar/vocals), Marco Schaller (bass) and Patrick Grün (drums) are ready to fight.
We begin with Zeitgeister, a short introduction that offers worrying symphonic elements before Trauma, the first song. The sound is massive, and wears some Beatdown elements to welcome Matthi (Nasty) for some rap featuring that goes very well with the track’s heaviness. The band adds some Post-Hardcore elements to its Metalcore on Herz, an as intense song on those fast-paced rhythmics as on those federative chorus with clean vocals, then a raw groove strikes on Ausbruch nach innen, an aggressive song that promosed nice crowd movements. The break is massive, and the contrast with Feuer, zieh’ mit mir’s soft introduction is strengthened. The band will be quickly unleashed to come back with effective and violent riffs while the vocalist is in very good shape, then Nichts ist fuer immer brings a good fix of melancholy and effectiveness combined into airy riffs. Rage bursts into fire on Intoleranz, a suffocating and dark but also very jerky song, cut by some worrying sampled parts. Heaviness and brutality will come back to Mein Inferno, one of the most effective songs. This introduction is super powerful, and riffs will follow this path before nICHts, the last track. Blackness and hooking tones will be part of the bill to close the EP on the best way, with an incredibly intense chorus.
The least we can say, is that Caliban still reigns over the pit. Even without a live ambience, Zeitgeister makes us want to destroy everything while screaming, moving everywhere, and this will only cease with the last song’s end.
