Death Metal fans, rejoice! Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement is back from the dead!
Created in the United States in 2006, the band composed of Jordan Varela (guitar/bass/drums, Lust of Decay, ex-Cesspool of Vermin, ex-Lividity) and Jay Barnes (vocals, Cesspool of Vermin, Lust of Decay) announces the release of Constructing The Cataclysm, their third album, for 2022!
Insurrection of the Diabolical throws us right into the middle of a fierce battle, joined by solid riffs and massive screams. Old School influences and jerky patterns welcome sharp leads just like on Breaching the Gates of Tranquility and its unhealthy sounds which perfectly fit with the riffs’ apocalyptic atmosphere. We can also notice the aggressive and visceral choirs which sometimes strengthen vocal parts before Insidious Spiritual Incarceration comes to offer us a short moment of respite with this sample with Asian sounds. Death Metal soon resurfaces with wild screams and a catchy rhythmic, then Awaiting the Infinity of Oblivion reveals more complex elements while keeping the raw strength. Melodic harmonics let Irrevocable Siege of the Abominable, the album’s shortest track, expose its fast-paced sight of violence, then Fragmenting the Profane will reveal some energetic Thrash influences to empower thick riffs. New Japanese influences come on the opening sample of Tribunal of the Oni, an as sharp composition as a katana’s blade and as heady as the demons evoked in the title, then the album closes with Constructing the Cataclysm, a track which terrifies us before letting its rhythmic crush us once and for all.
Whether Brutal or Old School, Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement‘s Death Metal is frighteningly effective. The interludes inspired by the land of the rising sun allow Constructing The Cataclysm to be easily paced, making it a catchy and interesting album.
