Review 1326 : Utter Failure – Life Has No More Meaning – English

Utter Failure talks about despair.

Created in 2022 in the United States by John Suffering (vocals, Chalice of Suffering, Forever Falling, Solemn Echoes…) and Miguel Galindo (all instruments, Disemboweled Rotting Cadaver, Hawking Radiation, Unexplainable…), the duo announces the release of Life Has No More Meaning, its first album.

Agony And Despair, the first track, shrouds us with a suffocating, dark and haunting sound which will also welcome ghostly screams in the background. It takes a few moments to get used to the darkness fueled by the tortured vocals and ghoulish melodies, which develop a unique atmosphere before fading into nothingness, and giving way to The End Is Near, a more Old School composition which lets bass offer lead parts while guitars feed dissonance. The melting slowly progresses, letting voice express itself with a frightening tone which perfectly fits the oppressive sounds, continuing with Unheard Cries and its heavy melancholy. The sound becomes more threatening, as well as vocals which sometimes become heavier, creating a relief in the cold and regular riffs, then Cold Existence takes over with the same elements. The track is the longest of the album, and it allows the musicians to drown us under a continuity which is both soothing and suffocating, while sometimes offering heady melodies which come to alight on the throbbing rhythmic, then screams of despair resurface, before the track abandons us with Life Has No More Meaning, the last song, which leaves more room for guitars, while the rhythmic slowly envelops us. The cries of pain will not be forgotten, just like bass which remains in front in the mix, where strikes become heavier, and nothingness will welcome the sound again.

Between DSBM and Doom influences, Utter Failure offers us its vision of sadness. If vocals are quite unusual, they give Life Has No More Meaning a unique flavor, which will undoubtedly mark you.
