Eaten by Sharks resurfaces with their first album.
After a debut EP in 2013, the band consisting of Matt Sherriff (vocals), Chris Chaperon (guitar), Dan Okowinsky (guitar), Tyler Abrams (bass) and Justin Whitehead (drums) announce the release of Eradication, produced, mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy).
The band kicks off with Shallow Water, a groovy opening track which sets the stage for the aggressive multi-influenced sound. Melodic harmonics combine with a jerky basis and massive screams to create an extremely catchy sound before letting technicality do the talking on Dead Weight and its complex Deathcore influences. Rage is expressed in devastating vocal parts which give life to the moshparts, then At The End comes back in more straightforward and aggressive patterns, inspired notably by Thrash and Old School Death Metal. The band doesn’t hesitate to use faster elements in leads, or dissonance like on Same Face, Different Mask, the next track, which will be perfect to set the fire and unleash the pits. The track is very jerky and will offer explosive harmonics and effective moshparts, then Depths Charge will return to a raw groove to place some crazy lead parts. The murderous riffs lead us to Apex Predator, a song with very modern and jerky influences which does not exclude dark tones nor more technical and unpredictable passages. The album closes with the massive Megalodon which proves to be as heavy as powerful, creating a real tidal wave during the most efficient and catchy riffs, letting the band flood us with violence until the last moment.
I just discovered Eaten by Sharks, and the band is a good surprise. Their mix of several styles focused on raw violence and devastating technicality makes Eradication an explosive and extremely effective album, although a bit short.
