Review 1366 : As Paradise Falls – Madness/Medecine – English

Get ready for violence with As Paradise Falls!

Formed in Australia, the band released their first EP in 2014, but would be stunted in their progress by a tragic accident the following year. The band would recover, then fall into obscurity until 2019, when Ravi Sherwell (vocals) and Danny Kenneally (guitar) breathed new life into the band, which announced the release of its new EP, Madness / Medicine, for 2022.

The band opens with BATS, an extremely heavy and aggressive track which mixes jerky rhythm, dissonant leads and massive screams for an explosive output. The song will slow down a few times to let more distant vocal parts create an oppressive atmosphere, then the Trap final guides us to Captain Hero, a slower but equally heavy composition. The almost constant moshparts mixed with Beatdown influences make the track perfect to unleash the crowd, just like that robotic voice before KFBR392 starts with cybernetic samples. The track is quite short but effective, with a succession of breaks and catchy riffs, just like Mechanical Hannibals, which offers some Old School Deathcore influences to combine with this whole wave of modernity. The track sometimes halts to come back stronger and to include Slam elements before TR4K 1 closes the album with two minutes of catchy and jerky sounds.

The return of As Paradise Falls is accompanied by a change of musical direction. With Madness / Medicine, the band explores Deathcore, but also more modern influences to build a groovy and massive sound.
