Review 1404 : Faustian – Faustian – English

Let’s discover Faustian together.

Created in the United States, the band composed of Dallas Smith (guitar/vocals), Troy Bennett (vocals/bass) and Max Kimmons (drums) signed in 2022 with Black Lion Records for the release of Faustian, their first EP.

Threshold, the introductory track, lays the foundations of the band’s universe: cold, dark and disturbing. Birth of Apparitions confirms this impression with a massive rhythmic overlaid with cavernous and unhealthy screams which let riffs slow down to become more oppressive before re-launching the assault with sharp leads. The rhythmic strikes until the abrupt final, then Communion with Shadows takes over with the same dark, jerky and aggressive rage which leaves the two voices a desolate playground to strike before placing a moshpart which remains anchored in the Old School tones. The band then unveils Void Sight, the last composition, which exploits this oppressive and permanently violent atmosphere again while deploying sharp leads to give the track a taste of bloody rage.

As I said, I just discovered Faustian, and their first release makes you want to hear more. In just three tracks and an introduction, the trio has made Faustian a massive and cold EP. I can’t wait to hear them create again.
