Vomit Forth sign their second album.
With renewed support from Century Media Records, the American band comprising Kane Gelaznik (vocals), Luke Zeitler (drums), Jett Stotts (bass, Khasm, World Tension) and Bailey Olinger (guitar, Flames of Betrayal) unveil Terrified of God in 2024.
Victim Impact Statement immediately attacks with heavy riffs before offering a catchy groove under powerful vociferations, but dissonance interrupts the moshpart before continuing the assault on Sacred Apple. The rhythm hits hard while the occasional scream appears, but the track is short enough to let Blood Soaked Death Dream take over and continue molesting us at its own pace, with a succession of blasts and vindictive guitars. The palm-mutes create a suffocating sound with which the band play to link their waves of violence, as on the stirring Negative Penance, where the bass plays a very important role in the slower parts. Blood Lead Index takes up the slack, speeding up all at once and delivering passages perfectly cut to make the pit explode in an overexcited live performance, then we find the same elements again with Poison Child, which is bound to provoke every conceivable crowd movement if the band are to incorporate it into their setlists. The pressure doesn’t let up with Fixation on the Narrative, which lines up furious riffs without flinching, though with a few more worrying elements, such as the vocals leading into Non Responsive, where the Hardcore influences are also more present, making this composition a veritable weapon of war. The eponymous Terrified of God is ironically the calmest track, allowing us to breathe before Fear of Retaliation hits us full force again, mixing vindictiveness with the four musicians’ different influences. Aggression continues with Rotting Wool, which starts off slow enough but soon ignites, offering some vocal diversity, before the album comes to a close with Salt, where the explosiveness of the debut gives way to a suffocating slowness, then chaos.
Vomit Forth have undoubtedly found their way between raw Death Metal and strong Hardcore influences, making each track a real live steamroller. If you give it a go, Terrified of God will make you want to punch anything that moves.
