Review 3468 : A Secret Revealed – The Ruin I Summoned Forth – English

A Secret Revealed has shunned the spotlight.

Sounding like a threat to the world, the band’s fifth album, The Ruin I Summoned Forth, is the third they’ve released in collaboration with Lifeforce Records, featuring Michael Heim (vocals), Lukas Brückner (guitar), Ralf Ungermann (guitar), Julian Langguth (bass), and Tilman Witschel (drums).

A sampled voice warns us just before Disheartened literally explodes in our faces, unleashing a dark and visceral blast over which Michael’s heart-wrenching screams unleash a veritable hurricane of emotions. The quintet continues to confront us with our demons before being joined by Nikita Kamprad (Der Weg Einer Freiheit), who instantly amplifies the darkness, first taking the mic before sharing it with the vocalist, then reaching Collapsar, a new wave that crashes into our ears and relentlessly lashes our souls. We find ourselves trapped within the torrent, at the mercy of the band’s riffs and screams, as they almost immediately kick things back into gear with Withered Eyes, a track that harnesses Post Metal’s full depth, both in the abyssal heaviness of its jagged rhythm section and in the gentle, soaring harmonics that run throughout a song that shifts in atmosphere with remarkable naturalness. The Great Dying takes over, pinning us to the ground in turn, bringing us back to that duality unique to the style that the band masters to perfection in both aspects but which never ceases to surprise with its sudden burst of violence as well as the shift to minimalism in the intro to Torn From The Quiet. A crowd appears, and the band reignites the action, as determined as ever to bury us under its relentless riffs, which employ a breathless approach to keep us on the edge of our seats until the bass takes a moment on its own, surprising everyone with an icy metallic sound that’s quickly joined by the other instruments to reach the strangely upbeat Upheaval and its haunting harmonics. It’s worth noting that while this track is the most accessible on the album, it also features some of the most piercing patterns as well as the calmest ones during the break, before leading into No Mercy For The Wicked, which packs very aggressive sounds into each of its riffs, but especially in the vocals. The track is, however, fairly short, and gives way to The Farewell, the final track, which also hammers us with its crushing rhythm amid two brief interludes of much calmer tones that ultimately lead us to that inexorable end.

I didn’t remember being this impressed by A Secret Revealed when I first saw them live, but one thing is certain: The Ruin I Summoned Forth ranks among the very best releases of 2026! Such visceral intensity is rare, theirs is simply addictive.
