Maestitium offers its first EP to the world.
Created in 2019 as a studio project by the guitarist/singer and composer Elias Westrin (Tomb Dweller, ex-Voices of Vengeance), we also have Nils “Dominator” Fjellström (drums, Nordjevel, Myrkskog, Odium, ex-Dark Funeral, ex-Aeon, ex-Netherbird) and Anton Flodin (bass, Deathbreed) on board for Tale of the Endless.
The Undying Travail, a short but epic and melancholic introduction, introduces us to the swedish band’s ice cold universe. Heavy sonorities are already here, as well as mesmerizing keyboard parts, then Morning Star opens the fight. The rhythmic is heavy, but melodies easily come off this thick wave of rage. The vocalist’s howlings are sometimes accompanied by clean backing vocals, and the progression increases the song’s intensity. Some Symphonic influences slip into the mixing for the break, then it’s with pure Melodic Death riffs that the band goes to the final part before Song of the Freezing Wind. A catchy clean sounding introduction leads to a flood of heady and heavy riffs, with this vocal duality, that let the band’s two sides express themselves. We finish with Tale of the Endless, which is by far the more sharp and violent song by the band. Bloody harmonics join a majestic and fast rhythmic to create an epic rage. On the middle of the song, a part of worrying and melancholic blackness gets injected thanks to the break part, the, the flood continues stronger until the end.
This first EP from Maestitium sets the basis of their sound. Tale of the Endless is majestic, melodic and melancholic, as much as it is powerful and ice-cold. The band seems to have a promising future, as well as a Finnish band, of which their sound is inspired of!
