Review 495 : Ominous Ruin – Amidst Voices That Echo In Stone – English

Ready for a nex fix of Ominous Ruin?

Created in 2010 in the United States, the band releases two demos and an EP before offering us Amidst Voices That Echo In Stone, its first full-length. Adam Rosado (vocals), Alex Bacey (guitar), Mitch Yoesle (bass) and Petr Oplatka (guitar) are ready to fight!

With Andrew Baird (Fallujah) on drums and Crystal Rose who screams with the vocalist, the band offers a Technical Brutal Death Metal that will make headbang more than one! We begin with the dark Ritual, that places the band’s music basis, between pure violence and very worked parts. Attuned to the Chasm is made the same way, between fast-paced blast, lead avalanche, thick rhythmic and massive howlings. The band clearly knows where it goes like on Deception, a song with a worrying introduction on which Jade Ordonez (Arcane Existence, Embrium) adds piercing screams. We also have Kris Cana (Symbiotic) on Chrysalis of Flesh, a heady and as brutal as the previous songs. The band doesn’t seem to get tired, and sharp harmonics follow on.
We continue with A Feast for Shadows, a dissonant instrumental but strangely catchy track, with those shrilling melodies and this fastness, then Labyrinthine Torment, a mysterious and fascinating song begins. The introduction is enough to fascinate us, then the rhythmic slowly grows up to finally roll upon us. We also notice the addition of Julian Zidarevich (Black Passage, Behold the Desecration) on vocals, then Consumed comes to project us into space with soaring and oppressive tones, combined to this infernal heaviness. The modern Simulacra is next, with once again a technicality wave before Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone, the last song. Unsurprisingly, the song is massive, and allows the band to close this first album with a mastered violence from beginning to end.

Ominous Ruin’s first album was expected, and it doesn’t deceive. Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone is a compendium of assumed brutality, that knows how to add technical aspect to serve the firepower.
