Debauchery is back to reign over its universe.
Created in Germany in 2000 under the name of Maggotcunt by Thomas « The Bloodbeast » Gurrath (vocals/guitar), the man hires musicians, but the line-up regularly changes. Accompanied by Drakornaut Bloodbeast (bass) and Drakornaut Gorezilla (drums), the musician doesn’t release one but three albums, one for each band.
We begin with Monster Metal, the twelfth album of Debauchery. After a long introduction that quickly unveils us details about this universe’s cosmogony, the musicians invites Tim “Ripper” Owen (Spirits of Fire, ex-Judas Priest, ex-Iced Earth…) to sing with him on Bloodking, a pure Death’n’Roll song to which the guest adds an explosive Heavy touch. If the two universes perfectly complete each other, it is because the band’s style is both greasy and catchy, full of harmonics and motivating leads, but also very energetic. We can feel it on the fast Skull Mountain or the federative and heavy Debauchery Warmachine with heady chorus, but also with Metal To The Bone, a true hymn to this music. Blood God Eternal makes us want to nod with a beer in our hand, Hate Kill Murder will makes us rise our fist and scream, while Monster Metal and Debauchery Blood God are a perfect transition between Death and Heavy Metal. The album ends with the groovy The Godmachines March To War and the martial Warmachine Of The Chaos Gods, two very hooking songs.
Let’s go for Böse bis ins Blut, the Balgeroth part, sung in german. The more discerning (and german speakers) quickly noticed that Bluttgott is the german and more Black/Death oriented version of Bloodking, while Die Belagerung von Knochenheim offers a putrid version of Skill Mountains, keeping this federative and more catchy side. Böse bis ins Blut (Metal To The Bone) becomes way more aggressive and bloody, Hassen Töten Morden (Hate Kill Murder) wears scary accents while being still catchy, then the album ends with Drachenungeheuer (Monster Metal) which offers us to soil and blacken those epic and groovy riffs.
Metal To The Bone, the third and last version of the album, is signed by Blood God, the Heavy tendency of the universe. The only thing that differs from the previous forms is Thomas « The Bloodbeast » Gurrath’s vocals as well as backing vocals, offering pure Heavy drafts to some epic and groovy tracks to the bone.
Debauchery and its two other fiends, Balgeroth and Blood God, offer us quite classic compositions played into three different universes. Whether Monster Metal strikes with a greasy Death’n’Roll, Böse bis ins Blut picks into unhealthy Black/Death while Metal To The Bone offers a catchy traditional Heavy Metal. There is something for every taste here!
