New release in orbit for Mesarthim.
Active since 2015, the mysterious Australian band formed by the two members of Left Horn of the Ram is what can only be described as extremely prolific, as today they release their seventh album, Anthropic Bias / Departure, on Avantgarde Music.
The album consists of just two tracks, but easily exceeds thirty-five minutes. Anthropic Bias, the first of these, immediately plunges us back into those soaring cosmic sounds infused with Electro touches, but the steamy Black Metal base is never far away, just like the furious or disturbing vocal parts that haunt the nebula. The mix works wonderfully and mesmerizes us immediately, moving us between clouds of darkness and the catchy beat, but the tone remains relatively playful until the ominous but calmer breaks, but the composition soon returns to its dark, invigorating colors. The end is silent at first, then quite luminous, and eventually joins Departure, the second and final composition, which is resolutely more melancholy, even more haunting, whether in terms of the majestic instrumental or the vocal parts. The rhythm suddenly ignites and becomes extremely violent, but its gentleness returns in full force, tinting it with an almost depressing atmosphere while the keyboards draw our attention to a soothing break that ends with some sampled vocals, opening the doors to moments of quite grandiose intensity. The tortured vocal parts make the experience even more gripping, fuelling the ongoing duality as the composition lives out its final moments, and it ends again in total quietude, barely disturbed by a few astronaut voices.
As steady and mysterious as they are inspired, Mesarthim is a duo with a unique musical personality. Unsurprisingly, Anthropic Bias / Departure is a real treasure, whether you’re looking for darkness or a change of scenery.
