Discover Irae with their new EP.
Recently announced as the opening band for Marduk‘s new European tour, the Portuguese band made up of musicians Vulturius (A Forest of Dreams, Concilium, Decayed, Morte Incandescente…) and J Goat (Corpus Christii, Vltimas…), already responsible for numerous releases since 2002, unveil Promiscuous Fire.
Obskuritatem (Cave Ritual, Deathcircle, Sulphuric Night…) also lends his voice, and signs the artwork under the name Ainul Iblis.
The Curse of Lael kicks things off with a dissonant unhealthy atmosphere, as the first composition is rooted in oppressive old-school Black Metal with furious vocal parts. The band also provides a few catchy passages that keep that veil of darkness before a more mysterious final where the heady harmonics fly towards Vinho de Gólgota to renew the rage. The vocals switch from English to Portuguese while retaining their unholy power, perfectly matching the frenzied riffs and cutting leads, just as on Porco de Satanás, where the aggressive approach is quite similar. While the riffs remain just as fiery, the vocal parts sometimes become a little chaotic, in keeping with this visceral atmosphere, but also with the heavy, slower break that allows us to catch our breath before the final charge that leads to Endless Circle, the last composition where the band once again shows itself to be very heavy, combining vocals to reinforce the instrumental’s fury, or on the contrary, its harmonics’ anguish.
Irae‘s dark rituals are perfectly rooted in Black Metal’s traditions, and this new EP allows them to arouse our curiosity before their tour. Promiscuous Fire will appeal to fans of the occult and old-school sounds but is sure to please.
