Review 2735 : Dead Chasm – Spectral Tyranny – English

Dead Chasm return with a new EP.

To celebrate their signing to Transcending Obscurity Records, Lorenza (guitar/vocals, Stench of Profit, ex-Pyra), Gigi (bass, Evilspell, Perfidious) and Dave (drums, ex-Fuoco Fatuo) announce the release of Spectral Tyranny.

We kick off with the thick, abrasive sound of Beneath Decadent Shadows, a massive first composition where slow groove and heaviness march hand in hand under the cavernous vociferations of the vocalist. The double kick ignites the fire and the rhythm section literally explodes to continue its carnage at breakneck speed, while retaining its Old School tones, before Spectral Tyranny takes over to trample us before adopting heavy Death/Doom influences. The oppression doesn’t last, as the trio speed off again and change pace to give their riffs a more aggressive feel, before returning to a crushing apathy on the opening moments of Spawn in Absurdity, but once again the blast makes an appearance, followed by the other instruments. There are a few Grind touches on the faster passages, but the sound eventually dies in a controlled feedback after doing its job.

With Spectral Tyranny, Dead Chasm reassure us of their motivation to play very slow but also very fast Death Metal, with no possibility of compromise between the two. I can’t wait to hear more!
