Review 2738 : Cancer – Inverted World – English

Cancer - Logo

Cancer ravages the stage once again.

With their seventh album, Inverted World, the band featuring John Walker (guitar/vocals, Liquid Graveyard), Daniel Maganto (bass, Eternal Storm, Liquid Graveyard, Sacthu), Gabriel Valcázar (drums, Bizarre, Wormed) and Robert Navajas (guitar) continue their adventure with Peaceville Records.

The band kicks into high gear with the ferocious Enter the Gates, featuring solid riffing and furious vocal parts from the outset, but the Death/Thrash mix seems heavier and more impressive thanks to the mixing. Sharp leads appear, then Until They Died takes over, slightly accelerating to offer an aggressive sound, coupled with catchy parts and fiery harmonics that perfectly explode the rhythm. Further acceleration comes with the catchy Inverted World, an eponymous composition that occasionally adds more complex touches, but the track gradually slows down before giving way to 39 Bodies, where the musicians offer an interesting groove conducive to more or less organized crowd movements. Frenetic headbanging is the order of the day for Test Site, which once again places blast and jerky riffs at the heart of the track, which, although rather short, remains perfectly anchored in the band’s basics, as does Amputate which follows and offers us a real lesson in Old School sound. Once again, the efficient rhythm is perfect for the band’s bloody harmonies and snarling vociferations, then the tempo rises again on When Killing isn’t Murder, offering a jerky, heady advance that even offers us a rather melancholic solo to contrast. Covert Operations accelerates in its turn, revealing the full potential of its obvious aggressiveness thanks to some very direct patterns, then Jesus for Eugenics offers us a moment’s respite with its soothing introduction, but as you’d expect the saturation returns to hit us with a certain slowness. The rhythm eventually picks up speed and joins Corrosive, the last but also shortest composition, which has us shaking our heads and raising our fists to the unifying refrains shouted by John.

We all know Cancer, and we all know that the band is one of the legendary Death/Thrash bands. The band assumes its status and makes Inverted World a compendium of raw energy and catchy compositions.
