Review 2768 : Dissonant Seepage – Dystopian Putrescence – English

Dissonant Seepage is back in the news.

After a timid debut in 2015, the band led by Cody McConnell (vocals/bass, ex-Goemagot, ex-Contrarian), Daniel Fili (guitar, ex-Sastruga) and Anthony Ferro (drums, ex-Course of Extinction) unveils, in collaboration with Comatose Music, their second album, Dystopian Putrescence, illustrated by Pär Olofsson (Abominable Putridity, Aborted, Cannabis Corpse, Deeds of Flesh, Devourment…).

Although this is only their second album, it’s easy to see that Dissonant Seepage have made their mark in the world of Brutal Death: the sound is massive at all times, and the American influence is more than present. The palm-mutes respond to an unstoppable blast while the vocalist roars, offering real Old School aural carnage with meticulous production, leaving each instrument in its place to amplify the surge that tramples us continuously. The band barely gives us time to breathe between tracks, and each new composition is punishing, stringing together under-tuned riffs with a hint of dissonance at times, as on Rotting Monument, but also some murderous infrabasses that respond to the bestial roars of the vocalist. The rhythms will make your speakers vibrate, especially that of Constructing Flesh Into Shit, which is one of the heaviest on the album along with the final of Gargling Nails, and the permanent groove can only encourage you to shake your skull frantically as the band pours out its fat. Unfortunately (or fortunately for your innocent neighbors) the album only lasts a little over half an hour, and it ends with the macabre Dead Carcass to Worship followed by the long infernal Dystopian Putrescence, which closes the album in style.

Half an hour can be very short, as in the case of Dystopian Putrescence, or very long if you hate Brutal Death. Either way, you’ll be delighted to know that Dissonant Seepage can do both with controlled frenzy.
