Review 3137 : Unburier – As Time Awaits – English

Third EP for Unburier!

Still independent and making a name for themselves on the English underground scene where they originated, the band led by Ben Champion (vocals/guitar), Blake Hibberd (guitar/vocals, Morbikon, Goatgor), Stan Mitchell (bass, Parasitic Entity) and Kim Hughes (drums, Bonecarver, Pintglass) unveils 2026 As Time Awaits.

We hit the ground running with Continuum, the only one of the three tracks not to have been revealed in advance, which immediately introduces us to the band’s carefully crafted approach to violence, rooted in Death and Thrash Metal. The jerky riffs follow one another under virulent vocals, but the leads also play an important role, as can be seen in the long, chaotic final solo that leads into Abyssal Uncertainty, where the sound becomes darker, almost disturbing, while offering welcome melodic touches. The mix remains ferocious and will undoubtedly inspire imitators in the mosh pits where the band unleashes its uncompromising rage, even offering a solid acceleration on the double pedal, but it’s already time to make way for Survive the Vermin. The last track takes a little while to hit, offering a slightly more old-school approach at first, then something much more surprising, combining unexpected harmonics, an irregular pace, and intoxicating dissonant choruses to close this new chapter in the band’s history.

Releasing only three tracks, barely reaching fifteen minutes, is always a risky gamble for a young band, but Unburier manages to make As Time Awaits a guaranteed headbanging moment with fierce and polished riffs. One to watch!
