Review 3250 : Vile Desolation – Annihilating the Consciousness – English

Vile Desolation is just getting started.

Following a demo released in 2024 that caught the attention of Comatose Music, the Indonesian band led by Yudha (vocals, Restlessly…), Hendika (guitar/bass, Devouring Carnage, Putrescent, Spastic…) and Rama (drums, Abhorrently, Anthropophagus Depravity, Gerogot, Perveration…) is releasing its debut album, Annihilating the Consciousness, two years later.

With artwork once again created by their compatriot Bvllmetalart (Anthropophagus Depravity, Avulsed, Butcher ABC, Defeated Sanity, Gorepot, Jig-Ai, Terrorizer…), the band wants to convey one thing: they know Brutal Death, and especially its Old School roots. You can hear it immediately in the snare drum, but also in the groove and the raging, bestial roars, allowing the guitars a few dissonant harmonics, as on the first track, Veiled in Obscurity, which doesn’t hold back, hitting you hard from the very first moments. A similar concept runs throughout the album, with the rhythm section only slowing down to pick up the pace again or to introduce a cataclysmic mosh pit section, as on Whispers Through the Shadowed Gates or the shorter Labyrinth of Torment, which gives us a moment to catch our breath before diving back in. I’ll note the intense contrast between heavy brutality and virulent complexity on The Sinister Symphony, as well as the intriguing sample that appears just before the avalanche of Dementia’s Embrace, but what strikes me as the album’s climax is the track Chaos Unleashed, the penultimate composition that perfectly lives up to its name, delivering three minutes of uninterrupted violence. Half an hour of rage, and the sound stops.

Brutal Death is a very popular style in Asia, and Vile Desolation is undoubtedly one of its new standout acts! Annihilating the Consciousness benefits from Old School touches while offering a fairly modern mix that will undoubtedly appeal to a wide audience!
