Review 3280 : Crown The Beast – Judgement – English

It’s time for Crown The Beast to prove themselves.

With their new EP, Judgement, the Danish band led by Simon Skyrme (guitar), Søren Rønnebech Grønning (guitar), Lars Von Løvendal (guitar), Jason Campbell (vocals), Jens Moseholm (bass), and Mikkel Øllgaard Bjelke Laursen (drums) officially announces their signing with the label Emanzipation Productions.

Ruins Of Babylon opens the doors with an unsettling sound, followed by a massive, vindictive sound even before the machine kicks into gear, doubling down on the violence as Melodic Death Metal erupts all at once. We’re hit head-on by furious groove-influenced riffs backed by equally virulent vocals, but the mix is extremely catchy, and it becomes almost impossible not to bang your head before Human Target takes over, asserting a choppy rhythm borrowed to Six Feet Under. The band also develops a heavier side with keyboards in the background, but the composition remains very cohesive, leaving us very little breathing room between the onslaughts before finally leading into Judgement, the title track, which picks up the pace and delivers a veritable hurricane of sounds, each more provocative and jagged than the last, sounds that will be absolutely stunning live, but which already bring the EP to a close.

If I missed Crown The Beast’s album when it came out, Judgement really knocked me off my feet! Between Melodic Death Metal and vengeful influences, the riffs on these three tracks hit home like a ton of bricks and have me promising to keep an eye on this band in the future!
