Review 1011 : Malefic Throne – Malefic Throne – English

Malefic Throne already announces its first EP.

Created in the United States in 2021 by Gene Palubicki (guitar, Perdition Temple, Angelcorpse, Blasphemic Cruelty) Steve Tucker (bass/vocals, Morbid Angel, Warfather) and John Longstreth (drums, Origin, Hate Eternal, ex-Angelcorpse, ex-Gorguts), the band releases Malefic Throne to mark the beginning of 2022.

We begin into pure violence with Deciding the Hierarchy, a very straightforward and aggressive song. Old School Death Metal riffs are incredibly effective, allowing this flood of blast and massive howlings to loudly develop. Hooking tones continuously strike us, and they still allow some morbid and mean leads, then the avalanche comes back harder with The Dawn of the Truth, a quite jerky composition which makes us want to break our neck while the trio spits dark influences to our face. Musicians continue with A New Hand Upon the Blade, a song with more sharp roots to walk with the impressive blast and terrific howlings, but also chaotic harmonics which feed the unhealthy sound. It seems rage never fades, then the band closes its first release with Nuclear Winter, a cover from the mighty German band Sodom. Death and Thrash Metal always were very close, above all about the band members’ musical influences, and the trio easily and aggressively add their touch to the composition we all know.

Whether Malefic Throne’s line-up can make every Death Metal lover dream, the band easily confirms this first EP reaches their ambitions. Malefic Throne continuously strikes while spreading greasy and straightforward riffs, making it an excellent start. Keep an eye open on them!
