Review 1301 : Ritualization – Hema Ignis Necros – English

Ritualization comes back for blasphemy.

Since 2006, the French band composed of Warchangel (vocals), Infamist (guitar, Misgivings), Blastum (drums, Dawohl, Grist, Merrimack, Nihïlanth), Da’ath (guitar) and Daethorn (bass, Daethorn, Merrimack) has built its reputation. It’s time for Hema Ignis Necros, their new EP.

The Shapeless Scepter is the first track to mesmerize us into this dark and unholy universe before riffs, accompanied by vocal parts, strike us with those effective Old School sounds. Warlike tones coupled with Black Metal influences make the Death basis much more oppressive, just like the frantic leads which contribute to the suffocating atmosphere of this long song, which will finally give way to The Crown of Moloch after some oriental additions. The composition doesn’t waste any time to reveal all the strength of its thick and dissonant rhythmic, which still knows how to calm down to let the darkness slowly invade us with mystic howlings. The raw rage quickly resurfaces before a disturbing but hypnotic final, then When the Chalice Runneth Over closes this EP with a catchy but massive sound. Disturbing harmonics play a very important role in this impressive track with its devastating screams, but the abrasive strength will eventually appease to let a very mystical final shepherd us out of darkness.

Ritualization‘s universe is as dark as massive, and these two aspects perfectly complement each other in their compositions. Hema Ignis Necros may seem short, but it leaves as much room for rage as for mystical and ritualistic elements, which will both seduce their audience.
