Review 071 : Kalmah – Seventh Swamphony

Kalmah - Logo

Review 070 : HIM – And Love Said No – English

HIM - Logo

Far away from closed codes of Finnish Metal, Ville Valo (voice) and Mikko “Linde” Lindström (guitar) created HIM. The band’s musical style blends together many influences : Gothic Rock, Heavy Metal, Alternative Metal and Pop, under the name of Love Metal (officially launched some years later with the eponymous record). They are quickly joined by Mikko “Mige Amour” Paananen (bass), then Gas Lipstick (drums) in 1999 and Janne “Burton” Purttinen (keyboards) in 2001. Even if Gas Lipstick was replaced by Jukka “Kosmo” Kröger in 2015 after his departure, this line up will remains timeless in the eyes of the world.

Review 070 : HIM – And Love Said No

HIM - Logo

Review 069 : UnSun – Clinic For Dolls – English

UnSun - Logo

Polish has undoubtedly the recipe to create particular bands… Everything started in 2006 when guitarist Mauser (ex-Christ Agony, ex-Dies Irae, and at this time guitar player for Vader, that he left in 2008) and his wife Aya (voice) decided to create the band UnSun (firstly named Unseen). To complete the band, they decided to hire Heinrich (bass, also in Vesania and Masachist, ex-Decapitated) and Vaaver (drums, also present in Destruction), who will be respectively replaced in 2010 by Patrick and Gonzo (also in Non Opus Dei, ex-Third Degree).

Review 068 : NAGA – Inanimate – English

NAGA - Logo

Greasy and dark sounds friends, here is a nugget for your ears ! NAGA, created in 2013 by Emanuele Schember (bass) and Lorenzo De Stefano (guitar/voice) in Italy after disbanded Kill The Easter Rabbit, their previous band, they immediately hire Dario Graziano (drums) to play a mix between Sludge and Doom with Black Metal tones. They release a first EP the same year, then compose their first album that comes out in 2014. After some shows, they focus on Inanimate, their second EP. Released last year, it contains four tracks, each one is even more darker than the others. Just put a touch of dark in your day, here we start.

Review 067 : Insomnium – In The Halls Of Awaiting – English

Insomnium - Logo

Have you ever let yourself drown into a band’s music, and only wake up at the end of the record ? I did it with Insomnium. Created in 1997 in Joensuu, Finland, by Niilo Sevänen (bass/vocals) and Ville Friman (guitar/choirs) to play Melodic Death Metal, they hire a while after the creation drummer Markus Hirvonen and guitar player Ville Vänni, that replaced another guitar player in 2001, and who will be later replaced by Markus Vanhala (who also play guitars for Omnium Gatherum and Malpractice) in 2011.

Review 066 : AHAB – The Giant – English

Ahab - Logo

Let’s go back in 200’ when Chris Hector (guitar) and Daniel Droste (voice, guitar and keyboards), who were both guitar players for Midnattsol realised they share their passion for the ocean, and decided to create Ahab, as a tribute to the Prequod’s captain in the book Moby Dick, written by Herman Melville. Quickly joined by Cornelius Althammer (drums, also in Dead Eyed Sleeper) and Stephan Adolph (bass, voice), they record a demo and their first album before Stephan Adolph gives way to Stephan Wandernoth (bass, also in Dead Eyed Sleeper).
